You may have heard your stylist or friend talk about a new hair color service called Balayage. Although Balayage is not new to our industry, it has become more popular over the last year and we wanted to provide you with some more information so you can decide if you want to try it.
When you’re ready to consider trying Balayage, or if you have more questions after reading this article, we recommend scheduling a consultation with your stylist!
What is Balayage?
Balayage is a technique in applying highlights by “painting” color on the hair, free handed, in such a way as to create a graduated, natural looking effect. It’s like finger painting for your hair, but I would not try it at home! It is a very specialized technique that our talented team of professional stylists has studied and mastered.
Balayage is beautiful on brunettes who just want a slight difference in tone, and it can help blondes go from one extreme to another by having the color start with a very deep tone on the scalp and then transition to the lightest of light on the ends. How dramatic is up to you!
How is Balayage different?
Traditional highlights are usually applied by placing many foils of color in the hair from scalp to ends all over the head in a consistent pattern. With Balayage you can have the highlight start where you want the lightness to begin, depending on the length of your hair.
There is also a technique in Balayaging we like to call Melting. This gives you a subtle transformation from darker to lighter, as if one color is melting into the other.
Compared to traditional highlights which take much more time in the salon and more frequent visits to the salon, Balayage has that “in-style, grown out” look from the start so you can go longer between appointments.
Balayage is not just for the young either, it also complements all over base color even for those covering grey. It gives you that extra punch to perk up your look!
Thinking about trying Balayage?
We love giving our guests many options on color treatments and systems that work best for them, but Balayage has quickly moved to the top of the list for many of our guests. Our team members pride themselves on staying current in what is happening in hair and Balayage is a definite winner!
We hope this has given you a little more information about the Balayage service and that you’re interested in trying Balayage on your hair. Schedule your free consultation with your Bambou stylist to learn more!
